Sitting around watching press conferences about this pandemic was depressing and we needed to find something to occupy our time and energy to keep us from going crazy.

My wife and I run a buy-n-hold residential real estate portfolio in Austin and I do angel investing in early stage tech companies. Once I had worked with each of my companies on plans to get through the next couple of quarters, we realized we had time and energy to burn. When I read the medium article talking about the #SFHospitalmeal program on 3/25 (now re-branded as FrontlineFoods.org and doing AMAZING work), it was clear we needed to start one here. ATX Hospital Meals was born the next morning as a four-page Squarespace site and two Google forms. We thought we’d raise $5-10K and deliver a few meals. We didn’t realize how much momentum would get behind this mission.

The number of volunteers, coordination with other local and national programs and outpouring of support from people far and wide has been inspiring. Our mission is simple:

Raise Money — Buy Meals From Local Restaurants — Deliver to Healthcare Workers

See our results and progress posted each day and PLEASE pledge your support now and tell your network to shine a light on our mission through Facebook or Instagram. Not only are we nourishing and re-charging our healthcare workers who are engaged in war again this virus, but we are trying to save restaurants that we love. If we can help one local restaurant hire back one worker, then we delivered on our promise. We hope to hire back a few more than that…

What is next for the program?

  • Added ability to accept tax-exempt donations through ACAN partnership

  • Launched our corporate giving program with Flintco.

…lots more to come very soon.
