Frequently Asked Questions
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes! ATX Hospital Meals has partnered with Austin Chinese-American Network (ACAN) who is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. By using a credit card, Zelle or sending a check, ACAN will send you a written donation receipt that can be used for your U.S. taxes as an official record. ACAN’s EIN number is: 82-0847511.
Please note that if you use Venmo to fulfill your donation we cannot give you a donation receipt as your pledge is going directly to Matt Silk rather than through ACAN’s 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. We are providing multiple donation options to make contributing as easy as possible.
Can I pay by check instead?
Of course! You can mail your donation to the following address: Austin Chinese-American Network (ACAN), 7326 Fabion Drive, Austin, TX 78759. Make sure to include a cover letter that indicates your donation is for ATX Hopital Meals.
How do I use Zelle to make my donation?
Using Zelle through most major banks, you can donate to ATX Hospital Meals through ACAN, a 501(c)(3) organization. Simply log into your own bank account and send your donation to ACAN.Chinese@gmail.com and note (if possible) on the bank site that the payment is for “ATX Hospital Meals”. Banks using Zelle include, but are not limited to:
Chase QuickPay
Wells Fargo SurePay
Bank of America Send Money
You can find a complete list of banks here.
How do I use a credit card to make my donation?
You can use a credit card though ACAN via the following form: Credit Card Donations
Our credit card processor is handling these payments and MAY not charge a transaction fee for COVID-19 Relief Funds. Your receipt from ACAN will specify if they indeed did not charge the transaction fees. Please note, this is the only channel with potential transaction fees on your donation which we are not in control of operationally.
What are the fees associated with my donation?
If you use Venmo, Zelle or pay by check 100% of your donation will be used to buy meals from local restaurants that will go to Austin hospital workers and first responders. If you pay by credit card through our partner ACAN, we are using a special code “Austin COVID-19 Relief” which MAY cause the fee to be waived. However, the payment processor typically charges ACAN a transaction fee of 3.2% for Visa, Mastercard, and Discover transactions. We are unable to guarantee whether the payment processor ultimately will waive fees for all credit card transactions. Worst case, 96.8% of your $$ will go toward our mission.
UPDATE: Our founders have decided to personally donate any fee amount that we cannot get waived. So, 100% of your donation will go towards meals. Feel free to ignore the legalese above now.
Will I get a receipt?
All receipts will be processed by ACAN by September 30, 2020. Once you make a donation through ACAN, a receipt will be sent to you at the email address you provided upon making the donation. Please be sure to keep a copy of your receipt for tax purposes. .
Is my donation secure?
Absolutely. The security and confidentiality of your information is our highest priority. We use industry-standard SSL (secure socket layer) technology to protect your information and provide a safe and secure environment for online donations. We will not sell, trade or share your personal information with anyone else, nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations, and we will only share personal information if you have given us specific permission to do so.
